Honda CBR 929RR
When SimeonC offered me his Honda CBR 929RR I thought it was a joke. After finding out that he was serious, I got excited pretty quickly. I've never been on a sport bike before and I've always wondered how the other half lives.
I rode it home from work last Friday and my normal 25 minute commute turned into a one hour and 45 minute joy ride around the countryside. While I know I'm starting near the top off the sport bike world, I think I might be adding a sport bike to my garage in the future.
Before driving this thing, the fastest vehicle I had driven were a 2002 Carerra 4S and the go kart we raced in college. (Don't laugh at the kart thing until you've driven a serious racing kart. It will blow that Porsche out of the water from 0-60.) All off that has been erased with my ride on this bike. You can break the speed limit on I90 in first gear and there are five more gears to put a smile on your face. I have no idea how far the throttle twists because I was peeing my pants with a small twist of the wrist. This bike redefines fast.
Whether you're doing 20 or 100, this bike feels so stable and yet very nimble. The faster you go, the better it feels. I would have a lot of speeding tickets if I rode this regularly.
But therein lies the problem: this bike is so fast it's almost boring to ride on any normal road. It's comparable to playing golf in the living room.
It has changed my perspective on sport bike riders. I used to see them pass three cars at a time and shake my head. Having done that myself, I now see that it's really not a big deal. If you were on a bike path, you would think hard about picking the right time to pedal hard and pass three bicycles. However, if you were following three bikes on a road in your car, you'd still make sure no one was coming, but it's really nothing at all to get around them. It's the same thing when you're driving a bike like this and passing cars. Sure there are idiots out there, but maybe there aren't as many as I thought.
This bike is FUN. Sorry Simeon. You might not get it back for a while.
