New AXE Products

Another batch of AXE products arrived on my doorstep. I was able to bring the package inside without being tackled by any women. Good thing too or Tyla might have done more than tackle me.

First up is AXE Hold+Touch hair styling products. Whether you have normal, fine or thick hair, AXE has a product for you. How does it work? If my hair was more than half an inch long, I’d happily tell you. If you have longer hair and live near me, let me know and I’ll come squirt some of this on your head. How can you resist an offer like that?

Next up is a couple new set of shower gels.

  • AXE Cool Metal is made with cooling silver shower gel, fine quartz and zinc, Cool Metal shower gel and deodorant bodyspray.
  • AXE Thai Massage is made with tigergrass oil and sea salt.

I gave Tyla a sniff test of the shower gels and she preferred Thai Massage. Personally I liked both of them and look forward to lathering up soon. And now I will leave you with that mental image. You’re welcome.

Beat the Heat with Jim Beam

It’s a balmy 67 here in Seattle as I write this and the forecast is calling for temps all the way up into the mid-70s. It’s like the entire outdoors is air conditioned. But since I hear some mumblings about a heat wave in the rest of the country, I thought maybe I’d share a couple summery Jim Beam recipes to help you beat the heat.

Bourbon Alexander
Ingredients:
· 2 parts Jim Beam® Bourbon
· 1 large scoop real vanilla ice cream
Preparation:
· Blend ingredients together. Enjoy!

Red Stag Margarita
Ingredients:
· 1¼ part Red Stag®
· ½ part triple sec
· 4 parts margarita mix
· Lime wedge for garnish
Preparation:
· Combine ingredients in shaker with no ice and shake vigorously. Pour over ice in glass. Garnish and serve.

Bourbon Slush
Ingredients:
· 2 parts Jim Beam Bourbon
· 1 large can frozen orange juice
· 1 large can frozen lemonade
· 1½ cups sugar
· 2 cups hot water with 4 tea bags
· 8 cups boiling water
Preparation:
· Remove tea bags. Mix all and freeze. Make ahead at least 24 hours. To serve, scoop into glass and add a small amount of lemon-lime soda to make slushy.

Wounded Warrior Project

The Wounded Warrior Project is a great cause to help give back to those who have given so much for us. As part of the product launch for Buzzed Look cream, AXE Hair has donated $50,000 to the fund. If you’re looking for somewhere to give a donation, that’s a great cause to check out. And if you’ve got a buzzed head for the summer, check out Buzzed Look cream. It has SPF 15 mixed in to keep that dome from burning.

"The buzz cut is a practical style that girls love and AXE Buzzed Look Cream + SPF is designed to make it easy for guys to maintain it," said David Rubin, marketing director for AXE Hair. "While we are proud of our latest styling innovation, we are even prouder to be working with Wounded Warrior Project to help make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country."

"Over 44,000 of our nation’s armed forces have been physically wounded during the current military conflicts and hundreds of thousands more are estimated to be recovering from the invisible wounds of war," said Adam Silva, chief development officer of Wounded Warrior Project. "AXE Hair’s contribution will fund programs that nurture the mind, body and spirit and help returning warriors take on their next challenges here at home."

Jim Beam Devil’s Cut

Jim Beam sent over a new bottle of bourbon for me to try out. This one is called Devil’s Cut which is a play on the phrase “angel’s share.” That’s the bit of whiskey that evaporates during the maturing process. In contrast to that, Devil’s Cut is made after the whiskey barrels have been dumped. Instead of just rinsing the barrels with water to get what’s leftover, Jim Beam partially fills the barrels and then lets them sit. This is then mixed with a 6 year old bourbon base to create a drink that tastes a lot older than it really is.

While camping may not be the most precise tasting environment you could dream up, I took it with us on our trip last weekend. We all enjoyed it and raised our glasses to the good folks over at Jim Beam who have created a great new beverage!

You can find 90 proof Devil’s Cut at your favorite liquor store for $26.95 (plus state taxes for a 750mL bottle. Here in Washington that means a total price of $35.93.
